  2. Throughout the years, Republicans and Democrats have fought tooth and nail trying to win over the people. Christopher Baxter from nj.com recently wrote an article about Democrats keeping information from the Republicans about the Chris Christie bridge scandal. Apparently, Democrats used subpoenas to gain information beyond the lane closings without the Republicans knowledge. These fights spread over all subjects. Currently, Republicans are trying to twist the words of Alex Sink, Democratic House candidate, in order to set the people against him. When Alex Sink spoke about Obamacare relieving employees from “job lock” he was immediately attacked, as reported by Greg Sargent. Another fight between parties has been initiated by Obama. He believes the Republicans are more interested in their money than the American people. The direct quote, as reported by Thomas Ferraro and Richard Cowan, is “[local politicians] are more concerned about German shareholders than American workers.”
While the political fights today are much less violent, they are still very dirty. While they were one country, America was still divided into the North and South. The fighting continued even after the Civil War. Many white supremacy groups emerged in the South following the Civil War with one common goal. They wanted to keep the African Americans below them even with all the political and physical power the North possessed. The KKK is one of the most popular groups. However, the South did not just fight back with violence. They possessed the power of their skin color, white. Using the racism and prejudice that had become a part of America, they created laws that allowed segregation such as the Jim Crow laws.
While these fights are not on topics of nearly the same magnitude, the largest snowman started off as a single snowflake. We need to find a common ground where we are able to settle our differences in a calm way.

The voting process after reconstruction was a huge issue that the country had problems solving. Ex-confederates were not trusted by radical republicans. These republicans did not want the Confederates to be able to vote. The South had to fight to get their voting rights back and to be a part of the country again. In addition, freedmen had a difficult time voting because voting now cost them money. Also, they had to pass a literacy test which consisted of reading a passage from the Constitution and analyzing it. Later, the Grandfather Clause was passed stating that one could only vote if they or their descendants had been able to vote in 1867. This specifically targeted freedmen because no black was able to vote before or in 1867.

These three articles all deal with voting rights in the United States. The first article talks about a proposition that only taxpayers should be able to vote and the rich should be able to cast more votes. The second article discusses how Attorney General Eric Holder Jr. called for a repeal of the law that bans felons from voting. In the third article, the writer discusses how it is unfair that felons should not be banned from voting just because of a crime they committed. 1 in 40 american adults cannot vote because of this law. All of these articles relate to reconstruction because they all have to do with voting rights. In the South, ex- confederates were not able to vote at first. This relates to the felons who currently cannot vote. Also, the southerners were prejudice against the freedmen and tried to stop them from voting. This is similar to the first article that proposes that only taxpayers should be able to vote and that the rich should be able to vote more.
